Arthur Ruud, Research Scientist
Mr. Ruud has more than 30 years of experience in conducting research activities in the area of coal-conversion technologies and environmental issues. He has worked on a wide range of projects involving development of activated carbons from lignite, liquefaction of low-rank coals, coal gasification, wastewater treatment, and characterization of environmental samples. He also has extensive experience in set-up, maintenance, and operation of laboratory-scale testing apparatus and analytical equipment. In addition, Mr. Ruud has a strong background in analytical methods of analysis including atomic absorption, microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and other instrumental and wet chemical methods of analysis.
Shuchita Patwardhan, Project Manager
Ms. Patwardhan has a M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from University of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from University of Pune, India. During her bachelor’s degree, she also studied for a semester in Ecole des Mines d’Albi-Carmaux, France. Her graduate research mainly focused on evaluating a low-corrosion method for mercury oxidation in taconite industry. She has experience in working with surface characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). She also has a strong background with combustion processes, gasification techniques, and their computer modeling. At Microbeam, she is responsible for material analysis, data analysis, data interpretation, and preparation of client reports.
David Stadem, Research Scientist
Mr. Stadem received a B.A. in Chemistry from Augustana College with a focus in analytical chemistry. He has worked in the biofuels and animal vaccines industries, gaining experience in gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and various other laboratory techniques. At Microbeam, he is responsible for sample preparation and analysis, as well as assisting in data interpretation, analytical systems management, and lab upkeep.
