Laboratory Technician

Microbeam is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This job is located at the Microbeam Technologies Incorporated lab in Grand Forks, ND.  The function of this job is to perform sample preparation, testing, and analysis. The work involves logging and tracking of samples, performing sample preparation for chemical and physical testing, conducting analysis/testing using high temperature equipment, and assisting in the analysis of materials with an automated scanning electron microscope equipped with an x-ray microanalysis system. These activities support the efforts of scientists and engineers conducting energy and materials related projects for companies worldwide.

The work involves the following duties:

  • Logging and tracking of samples using database management tools,

  • Performing sample preparation for chemical and physical testing,

  • Conducting analysis/testing using high temperature equipment,

  • Assisting in the analysis of materials with an automated scanning electron microscope equipped with an x-ray microanalysis system,

  • Interpreting and reporting testing and analysis results, and

  • Maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment including furnaces, SEM, and various testing equipment.

The job requires a minimum of a 2-year technical degree, or equivalent.  Two years of laboratory experience preferred.  Good mechanical skills are required. Must be computer literate with good communication and time management skills.
