Plant Performance Optimization

Microbeam’s tools enable you to maximize operational efficiency and reliability. This state-of-the-art platform offers a suite of online real-time modular tools designed to predict plant performance based on real-time estimations of fuel properties and plant state.

The Energy System Performance Manager (ESPM) is Microbeam's main plant performance optimization platform. ESPM operates on different levels of granularity depending on the needs of operators, with the ability to display individual operational parameters to the minute as well as high-level performance indices which are calculated from many different parameters. The tool also includes predictive analytics, with several neural networks and linear regression-based algorithms to predict operations and conditions up to eight hours in the future.

Levels of analytical information

Descriptive Analytics Track fuel from point of delivery into burners to sorting and blending to manage fuel properties

Diagnostic Analytics Advanced plant performance predictions based on fuel properties and operating conditions

Predictive Analytics Neural network-based predictive algorithms

Prescriptive Analytics Recommendations for optimal fuel properties and operating conditions for improved performance

ESPM’s Fuel Handling page assists operators in quickly evaluating aspects such as fuel composition, the distribution of fuel quality in the silos and fuel residence time. These features provide fuel blending options and allow for projections of future fuel quality to the burners.

The diagnostics module is designed to summarize the overall plant performance. Color-coded gauges for each section are used to assess and predict the performance of the boiler by relating the impacts of as-fired fuel properties which are determined by the fuel tracking algorithm. The gauges take into account relevant fuel performance indices as well as current operating conditions.
